History of Our Tutorial Center
Our journey began with a powerful realization: the way we approach education in the Philippines needed to evolve. In a world where memorization often takes precedence over true understanding, many students struggle to grasp the concepts they need to succeed. This became evident when we discovered Singapore Math, a method that focuses on building conceptual understanding and problem-solving skills rather than just memorizing answers. It became clear that this approach was the key to helping students not only solve problems but also understand the ‘why’ behind what they were learning.
Inspired by the success of Singapore Math, the founder of our center envisioned a place where students could develop critical thinking skills and gain a true understanding of the subjects they study. Math for Life was established to provide a nurturing environment where students can learn at their own pace and truly comprehend math—empowering them with skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
Our mission is simple: to help students build strong academic foundations that allow them to think critically, solve problems effectively, and excel both in school and in life. We believe that education should go beyond memorization, focusing on fostering curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning.
And now, we are bringing this to students in the United States.
For decades, traditional math education has relied on rote learning and memorization, where students are taught to follow formulas and procedures without truly understanding them. As a result, many struggle not only to master mathematical concepts but also to apply them in real-life situations. According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), math scores for 9-year-old students in 2022 saw the first-ever recorded decline, highlighting the urgent need for a stronger foundation in mathematics (NCES). Additionally, research has shown that many U.S. schools still emphasize procedural learning rather than conceptual understanding, limiting students' ability to think critically and solve problems effectively (Discovery Institute).
Singapore Math has already proven to be a game-changer in various schools, including the Orange County Classical Academy in California, where students have shown remarkable improvements in problem-solving and mathematical confidence. By introducing this approach, we aim to help U.S. students move beyond memorization, develop critical reasoning skills, and build a strong foundation in math—one that prepares them for real-world success.
